I listened to season one, episode one of this podcast; titled The Alibi. The episode introduces the story of Adnan Syed and the murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee. The episode is linked here if you would like to listen to it.

My first impression of the podcast was good. It sounded professional and interesting. The creators do a good job at bringing listeners within the first 5 minutes of the episode. I really enjoyed the story and the voice overs Koenig did.

I also like the idea of presenting investigative journalism in podcast form. I think it is an interesting and easy way to spread awareness and also entertain. Sarah Koenig does it in such a way you can picture her speaking to Syed and the others.

At the beginning of this episode, Sarah brings Syed's family out to speak. You hear their opinions and their thoughts and learn how they have been trying to clear Syed's name for more than 15 years. From their perspective, I hope they are happy about the amount of popularity the podcast has gotten. I think Syed's family is proud he has gotten some awareness that can hopefully benefit him.

The main issue Sarah deals within this podcast is memory. She begins by asking if you can remember the certain events of a day, like what you were wearing, or what you ate for breakfast. Syed's alibi is based solely on the trust of memory. I personally can not remember anything about what I did yesterday let alone last week. Being part of an investigation where I had to remember a day perfectly would be so stressful for me, I would probably contract amnesia.

When I read books it's usually in a physical format. I love the smell of a new or used book. I love picturing the eyes and hands that have held the book before. I think I prefer reading text over a podcast or audio file only because it's easier to focus with it in front of me. When listening to Serial though, I didn't find myself drifting off one time.
